Amplified & Forage Maize for BioticNRG – East Anglia

Company: BioticNRG – East Anglia.

Name: Courtney Mayes

Position: Assistant Feedstock Manager

Products used: Amplified & Forage Maize

We started working with, Max and Bright maize in 2024. Max is professional, personable and we immediately got on well. Managing 5000 Ha of forage maize across different sites in east Anglia can logistically be very challenging.

The main thing we like about Bright maize is the flexibility, changing deliveries last minute is never an issue for them. Flexible payment terms is also a big benefit at times.

The Maize portfolio is competitively priced and the advice on where to plant what is always sound. Across our acreage we have a huge variety of ground conditions, so we do have to match varieties to the land.

For us, the varieties have performed as well as the more recognisable seed breeders and the seed quality is second to none. We particularly like Starlord and Clifford.

We have also started using the Amplified Foliar N. Bright Maize were extremely competitive on price against their competitors. We await to see the results come harvest.

We hope to continue working with Bright Maize for many more years.

What happens when a farmer completely rethinks their system in pursuit of a low-input dairy model?

Alford Fields Farm, Bright Maize Testimonial LinkedIn

This testimonial follows Catherine Pickford’s move to a larger Somerset holding and the bold reset that came with it—rebuilding her grazing platform from the ground up, redesigning her herd for efficiency over yield, and reshaping the farm for long-term resilience.

“A key part of that transformation came through our distributor Bright Maize, where grass specialist Mike Sims worked closely with Catherine to recommend tailored grass seed mixes. These incorporated Barenbrug’s extensive range of proven varieties, helping to build swards designed for persistence, drought resilience, and consistent grazing quality.

The result? Stronger, deeper-rooting pastures with species like tall fescue and improved modern cocksfoot varieties—supporting cow performance, stabilising production through dry periods, and reducing reliance on bought-in inputs.

From cutting nitrogen use to improving grazing reliability, these grass choices have played a central role in helping Catherine deliver a more efficient, lower-cost system without compromising output.

It’s also a story about people as much as pasture—developing the next generation of dairy talent alongside a farm built for the future.”
